STACEY HEDLEF

SUPPORT WORKER

ABOUT ME: I grew up in a nurturing environment, guided by my remarkable mother, and I am the oldest of three siblings, with a younger brother and sister. Our household is lively, filled with the presence of two dogs, a cat, two budgerigars, and several fish. Much of my leisure time is devoted to caring for our pets and nurturing my plants. Additionally, I enjoy engaging in word puzzles, sudoku, and origami. I also take pleasure in exploring grocery stores for bargains, where I often discover an array of near-expiry items that inspire my culinary creativity. Furthermore, I indulge in spontaneous stretching exercises, although I have yet to dedicate time to mastering yoga; perhaps that is something I will pursue in the future.

EXPERIENCE: I have a strong interest in health sciences, holding a degree in paramedicine and currently pursuing studies in podiatry, which focuses on foot health. My passion extends beyond specific areas of study to encompass overall wellness. I believe that one of my key strengths lies in my ability to communicate effectively, fostering an environment where individuals feel at ease and free to express themselves. As Stephen Porges wisely stated, “If you want to improve the world, start by making people feel safer.” Over the past five years, I have had the Honor of working in disability support, where I have formed meaningful connections with a diverse array of individuals, each possessing their own aspirations, strengths, and narratives. My professional experience encompasses in-home support and community access, assisting individuals with various physical and intellectual disabilities, as well as those facing mental health and behavioural challenges. Throughout this journey, I have consistently prioritized the respect for each person's autonomy and their unique life experiences. I am committed to cultivating authentic relationships, being fully present, and collaborating with individuals as they strive to achieve what is most important to them, including those affected by brain injuries, autism, ADHD, strokes, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, intellectual disabilities, and those who have experienced suicidal crises.
